Domestic Violence

Domestic violence, once considered one of the most underreported crimes, has become more widely recognized in recent years.  Any abusive, violent, coercive, forceful, or threatening act or word inflicted by one member of a family or household on another can constitute domestic violence. Domestic violence most often refers to violence between married or cohabiting couples, although it sometimes refers to violence against other members of a household, such as children or elderly relatives.

Often times those involved in domestic violence situations never intend for law enforcement to become involved.  If the police are called as a result of a dispute, either by the parties involved or a third party, a report must be filed, and perhaps a resulting arrest may occur.  Seeking immediate legal counsel is critical if you find yourself in this situation.
